Research Manager

Job description

We're looking for a highly motivated Research Manager to join us at an exciting time of growth and development. In this role as Research Manager, you will manage our innovation projects and collaborate successfully with our project partners and our engineering, design and development teams to achieve our goals.


• Manage innovation projects and research grant funding opportunities
• IP strategy and patent portfolio management
• Manage qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis
• Liaise successfully with public bodies and government departments, including the EPRSC, The Department of Science, Innovation and Technology and Innovate UK
• Identify innovation opportunities
• Analyse problems and work to develop workable solutions
• Identify the best use of resources.

Required qualifications & experience

• Educated to PhD level (MSc candidates with relevant experience will be considered)
• Experience with grant applications and grant management
• Planning and organisational skills – Able to manage multiple tasks and complete work to deadlines
• Experience with coaching, mentoring or line management
• Excellent communication skills - Able to build and maintain good relationships with project partners and colleagues
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to plan workload and manage own time
• Ability to assess, interpret and evaluate the outcomes of research
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Photonics experience
• Eligibility to work full-time in the UK
